"‘Timeless over trendy, quality over quantity, and classic silhouettes with a twist,’ says Genelia Deshmukh, capturing the essence of her personal style. For Manish Malhotra's annual Diwali party, she embraced this philosophy, curating a look that stayed true to her ethos.
Rather than the usual sequin-heavy attire for a star-studded celebration, Deshmukh opted for a Benarasi lehenga from the designer’s collection. ‘I love the traditional-classic charm of this outfit. It exudes refinement, poise, and an effortless elegance, which aligns with my belief that ‘less is more, but make it exceptional,’ she shared.
Deshmukh explains her choice, adding, ‘The Benarasi lehenga brings an air of timeless sophistication, emphasizing simplicity and allowing my personality to shine without excess. The look offers a refreshing contrast to more dramatic styles. Kudos to my stylists, Pranay [Jaitly] and Shounak [Amonkar], for recommending this traditional ensemble.’
Reflecting on her initial vision, Jaitly reveals, ‘Genelia’s brief was to keep it classic, comfortable, and true to her essence, especially for a Diwali celebration. This couture piece is crafted from Benarasi fabric and adorned with intricate zardozi and gota patti work.’
‘The blouse is as exquisite as the yellow-gold lehenga skirt, with pearl detailing and tassels on the back,’ Amonkar adds. ‘The set is completed with a coral tissue dupatta, bordered with matching zardozi embroidery.’
The ensemble was perfectly complemented by Deshmukh’s accessories and beauty choices. ‘We styled her with traditional yellow gold jewelry—a statement choker, stud earrings, and a stack of bangles from Tanishq—to echo the zardozi work on the lehenga. Her hair was styled in a braid decorated with gajra, and her makeup featured defined brown eyes and an old rose pink lipstick over a dewy base,’ the stylists from Who Wore What When concluded."
